KIM SWEE AIMS FOR TOP FIVE FINISH IN S-LEAGUE 2012

KUALA LUMPUR (26 Dec 2011) – Ong Kim Swee, the chief coach of the Harimau Muda has set a target of finishing in the top five in the S-League – the competition that they will be taking part in 2012 as part of the MOU signed between the FA of Malaysia (FAM) and the FA of Singapore (FAS).

Following the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), Harimau Muda will take part in the competition in the S-League and other Cup competitions while Singapore will also have a team playing in the M-League.

"Personally, I'm setting the target of finishing in the top five in the S-League as it is part of the motivation for the players to perform against quality opponents," said Kim Swee.

And while Singapore have decided to add 11 over-aged players in their LIONSXII team playing in the M-League, Kim Swee on the other hand is more courageous where he has chosen to utilize only players under the age of 23-years-old where at the same time, he has also included six 18year-olds in Nazmi Faiz Mansor, Syazwan Tajuddin, Akmal Ishak, Azizan Nordin, Nur Areef Kamaruddin and Firdaus Muhammad. Wan Zack Haikal Belum Pasti Sertai Skuad Ong Kim Swee di ...

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 06:04 AM PST

Malaysia Football News: Coach Kim Swee targetting top five place ...

Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:13 PM PST

Coach Ong Kim Swee has set a top five target for the Young Tigers squad in the S-League with a mixed team comprising just 11 players from the Sea Games gold medal side.

Despite naming a relatively inexperienced squad, Kim Swee is confident that the team would not let him down in the S-League.

"The FA of Malaysia has not set any targets for this team, but I want my players to finish in the top five or better in the league. We have lost nine regulars but the newcomers are capable," said Kim Swee.

"We had a successful year in our playing tours and the Sea Games and I want my boys to build from those to produce better football in Singapore."

He hopes bringing a young team into the league will help them gain more experience and improve their football as he aims to use the squad in the 2013 AFC Under-22 Championships qualifiers and the Myanmar Sea Games.

"Most of my players -- about 75 percent -- can play in the Under-22 qualifiers and making the main draw of the tournament is a priority."

Kim Swee is upbeat that the likes of Izzaq Faris Ramlan and Syahrul Azwari, who displayed an impressive show during the Sea Games, as well as defenders Mahalli Jasuli and Fadhli Shas along with the midfield duo of Irfan Fazail and Wan Zack Haikal, who have returned from Sloviakian club Zlate Moravce, will help the side establish themselves.

"I am confident my boys will display the good football that they are capable of playing. We want to entertain the fans," added Kim Swee.

THE SQUAD -- Mahali Jasuli, Affizie Faisal, V Kalaichelvan, Syahid Zaihon, Izzaq Faris Ramlan, Shahril Saari, Fadhli Shas, Wan Zack Haikal, Thamil Arasu, Irfan Fazail, Wan Zaharul Nizam, Izham Tarmizi, Ferris Danial, Ahmad Hazwan, Fandi Othman, D Saarvindran, Garry Steven Robbat, Amer Saidin, Syahrul Azwari, Farhan Abu Bakar, Nazirul Naim, Shahrul Saad, Nazmi Faiz, Syazwan Tajuddin, Akmal Ishak, Azizan Nordin, Nur Areef Kamaruddin, Firdaus Muhammad.

"We've lost nine boys from that squad, but when the seniors leave, young players get to step in, and if we don't give them a chance we'll never know if they can make the step up," said Ong.

"A lot of these boys have already got exposure at this age, have played in international tournaments and the key thing we need to achieve is consistency throughout the season."

The usual household names will be leading their charge with the likes of Wan Zack Wan Haikal, Irfan Fazail, Fadhli Shas, Thamil Arasu and even Syahrul Azwari being named in the squad. Also not forgetting Malaysian teenage sensation Nazmi Faiz, who has been terrific in recent times.

Malaysia U-23 announce squad list for 2012 S-League - Goal.com

Posted: 22 Dec 2011 07:02 AM PST

The Malaysian Under-23 side have officially announced the squad that will do battle in the S-League, which is scheduled to begin in February 2012.

Coach Ong Kim Swee has revealed that a top-five finish remains a key aspiration although natural progression for the young players will be their main aim.

"The FAM management haven't set us a target, the most important thing is for the boys to get exposure, but we have to learn to aim for more and achieve our goals," he was quoted by Today Online.

"My aim is to finish in the top five and I want to see how the boys accept that challenge.

"Don't be surprised by the good football that these boys are capable of playing, I think we'll be able to entertain fans and keep them coming back to watch us."

The Young Tigers have been in impressive form under Kim Swee's guidance throughout the year. After finishing fifth in the Malaysian Super League, they showed great resilience to triumph in the South East Asean Games, overcoming host nations Indonesia in the final.

However, their capabilities will be tested immensely as several key players from that SEA Games victory will not available to Kim Swee when the S-League kicks off next year. That list will include goalkeeper Khairul Fahmie, skipper Baddrol Bakhtiar, K. Gurusamy, Asraruddin Putra and Muslim Ahmad but Kim Swee is optimistic for his current crop players.

Young Tigers' squad:

Mahali Jasuli, Affizie Faisal, V Kalaichelvan, Syahid Zaihon, Izzaq Faris Ramlan, Shahril Saari, Fadhli Shas, Wan Zack Haikal, Thamil Arasu, Irfan Fazail, Wan Zaharul Nizam, Izham Tarmizi, Ferris Danial, Ahmad Hazwan, Fandi Othman, D Saarvindran, Garry Steven Robbat, Amer Saidin, Syahrul Azwari, Farhan Abu Bakar, Nazirul Naim, Shahrul Saad, Nazmi Faiz, Syazwan Tajuddin, Akmal Ishak, Azizan Nordin, Nur Areef Kamaruddin, Firdaus Muhammad.

Wan Zack Haikal ke Wigan Athletic? | Al-Ziyad News

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 06:04 AM PDT
